FAQ
Do I need to register copyright for it to be valid?
No. Copyright arises automatically upon creation of the work, regardless of registration. However, registration or recordation may be useful as evidence of authorship in case of a dispute.
I wrote a script for a client. Who owns the rights now?
It depends on the contract. If nothing is specified, the rights remain with you; however, if the work was created under an employment or service contract, “work-for-hire” rules may apply. We help ensure the proper legal arrangements.
Can an idea be protected?
No. Ideas themselves are not protected. What is protected is the form of expression — text, music, imagery, etc. To protect an idea, turn it into a fixed, original work.
